Independently Yours — Program Terms & Code of Conduct
Artist Accelerator Program (Alpha & Beta Stages)
By checking the box on your Application, you're agreeing to the terms below.
1. How the Program Works
Independently Yours runs a four-stage program: Education, Incubation, Production, and Activation. Education and Incubation make up Alpha; Production and Activation make up Beta. Moving from Alpha to Beta isn't automatic — it's based on your progress, measured against our published Advancement Rubric. Sessions are currently in person weekly in Los Angeles and is TBD, currently expected to be from 1-4 pm PT on Thursdays. The full format will be confirmed when you're accepted.
2. Eligibility
Current clients of Juel Concepts or artists who have worked with Juel Concepts within the past 12 months, are not eligible to apply. If a team or board member has any prior relationship with an applicant, it must be disclosed during the application process and shared with the IY Board's Designated Oversight Director, so that person will step back from any scoring or selection decisions involving said applicant.
2a. Pre-Enrollment Disclosure
Independently Yours' President, Kristin Juel, holds a financial interest in Juel Concepts, a for-profit entity that provides services to Independently Yours under a disclosed agreement. Your participation in Independently Yours creates no expectation, obligation, or preference that you engage with Juel Concepts. You're encouraged to evaluate all commercial opportunities independently and to seek independent legal or business counsel before entering any commercial agreement. This program is designed to help you make informed, independent career decisions, whichever path you choose.
By checking the box on your Application, you acknowledge you've read and understood this disclosure, as required under Independently Yours Bylaws Section 8.04(c).
3. Your Music Stays Yours
You own 100% of your masters, publishing, and everything else you create — always. Nothing about being in this program changes that. We're not a label, publisher, or management company, and nothing here creates that kind of relationship. Materials we give you (curriculum, templates, tools) are yours to use for your own career, but not to repackage and resell as someone else's program.
4. Showing Up
This program takes time — minimum of 3 hours a week for the length of each stage. Showing up consistently is part of how we assess your commitment, and it factors into whether you advance to the next stage. Any no-shows without prior consent from the IY Program team will affect your standing in the program.
5. How We Treat Each Other
Everyone in this program — artists, staff, mentors, guests — treats each other with respect. That means:
No harassment, discrimination, or retaliation against anyone, for any reason
What's shared in the room stays in the room — don't repeat another artist's business or personal details outside of session
Don't record or share session content publicly without everyone's OK
If you have an existing relationship with any IY staff or board member, tell us — so we can handle it fairly
6. Assumption of Risk
Showing up to in-person sessions and events is your choice, and by participating you're accepting the ordinary risks that come with attending in person.
7. Photos & Promotion
We may photograph or record sessions and showcases to use on our website, social media, and in materials for donors and funders. If you'd rather something specific not be used, just tell us in writing and we'll honor that going forward wherever we reasonably can.
8. If Something Goes Wrong
If someone seriously violates this Code of Conduct — harassment, discrimination, dishonesty on their application, unsafe behavior — IY has the right to remove them from the program.
9. No Promises on Outcomes
Finishing Education and Incubation doesn't guarantee you'll advance to Production and Activation. And we can't promise any specific career, financial, or commercial result from being in this program. We bring the education, mentorship, community, and access — the rest is yours to build.
10. Agreement
Checking the box on your Application means you've read this, understand it, and agree to it as a condition of participating in Independently Yours.
